Configuration for Network Devices using Web Application

Configuration for Standalone Gateways and Routers can be carried out through the Web Application - Administration tool. Here details of each device to be monitored can be specified together with the appropriate SNMP access details. To add a device for monitoring use the following procedure.

From the MS Windows Start menu, open and then log in to the Administration tool of the Web Application using an administrator level user.

Prognosis → Prognosis Administration

In the server panel, click on the Monitoring Server that is to be configured.

This will open the Home page for this server.

From the Home page under the UC & Infrastructure Configuration section click the Add System Button.

On the Add New Unified Communication Monitoring page go to the 'Network Devices' section.

Select either AudioCodes Gateway or Cisco Device from the drop-down list and then click the Add button.

This will open the corresponding Add Device page.

Basic Details

Add the following details for the device that is to be monitored:

Display Name:

(Mandatory) This is a user-defined name given to the device. This name is used to identify the device in the various data Displays. The display name must only use: A-z, 0-9, ., - or _. Do not use -, _ or . at the start or end.

IP Address:

(Mandatory) Enter the IP address which the Monitoring Server can use to contact the device.

Customer Name:

(Optional) This field can be completed with a user-defined customer name. It is used for grouping purposes and for Role Based Security, it does not affect the actual device name. If this field is completed, the details will be visible in the various Displays and will group like customer names together. Customer name must only use: A-z, 0-9, space, !, ', /, &, - or _.

Site Name:

(Optional) This field can be completed with a user-defined site (location) name, e.g. 'London'. It is used for grouping purposes only and does not affect the actual device name. If this field is completed, the details will be visible in the various Displays and will group like site names together. Site name must only use: A-z, 0-9, space, - or _.

Type:

From the drop-down list box, select the device type, either; Expressway, H.323 Gateway, Router or SIP Gateway. For any selection, other than Expressway, the HTTP section will close as this is only applicable for Cisco Expressway configurations.

Details from the following fields will be used to connect to the Gateway device.

HTTP Protocol:

The protocol used to connect to the device, either HTTP or HTTPS.

HTTP Port:

Port number used to communicate with the device, default 443.

User Name:

The user name to connect with the device. The user name must only use: A-z, 0-9, - or _.

Password:

The applicable password associated with the user name.

SNMP Connection Details

SNMP Connection details are used to collect CPU, memory, disk and network metrics. If required, select/enter the details of the SNMP connection that is to be used to connect to the Cisco device.

Do not use SNMP

Select this option if an SNMP connection is not required, i.e. CPU, memory, disk and network metrics will not be collected.

Use SNMP Version 2c

Select this radio button if SNMP v2c protocol is to be used.

Community String:

Where SNMP v2c has been selected, enter the Community String that will be used for SNMP access. The default is 'public'.

Use SNMP Version 3

Select this radio button if SNMP v3 protocol is to be used.

Authentication Protocol:

Select if SNMP v3 authentication is enabled. Select from: None, MD5 or SHA. If authentication is enabled the following fields will be shown.

Authentication User Name:

User name to be used for authentication.

Authentication Password:

The valid password for the associated User Name. The password needs to be 8 characters or more in length.

Encryption Method:

Select if SNMP v3 encryption (privacy) is enabled. Select from: None, DES, AES, AES192, AES256 or 3DES. If encryption is enabled the following Password field will be shown.

Encryption Password:

Enter the password to be used for encryption. The password needs to be 8 characters or more in length.

Databases and Thresholds

Normally, once the configuration is complete, a number of Databases and Thresholds need to be started. The "Start standard databases and thresholds' setting, which is activated by default, will automatically carry this out after the configuration has been added. Should it not be required to start the Databases and Threshold, this setting can be disabled by unchecking the adjacent checkbox.

When completed click the Add button to save the changes, or click the Cancel button to cancel the current activity and return to the previous screen without saving any changes.
