Configuration for Cisco Network Devices using Windows Client

As an alternative to using the Web Application, the configuration for Cisco standalone Gateways and Routers can also be carried out manually. To do this use the following procedures

CISCODEV Configuration

Using either the Web Application or the Windows Client open the CISCODEV Configuration file.

A separate ADD DEVICE statement needs to be added for each Cisco device that is to be monitored. Also, where applicable, a separate DEFINE SNMP_PROFILE statement needs to be added for each device, for details see CISCODEV Configuration Syntax.

Example:

ADD DEVICE (Dev1, ip=10.118.19.7, type=sipgateway)
DEFINE SNMP_PROFILE (Dev1, port=161, version=3, authentication=YES, authProtocol=MD5, encryption=YES, encryptionProtocol=DES)

ADD DEVICE (SIPGW1-PRI, ip=10.116.107.61, type=sipgateway)
ADD DEVICE (SIPGW2-CAS, ip=10.116.107.21, type=sipgateway)
ADD DEVICE (SIPGW3-FXO-FXS, ip=10.116.102.2, type=sipgateway)
ADD DEVICE (SIPGW4-BRI, ip=10.116.102.10, type=sipgateway)

When finished select the Start button to run the updated configuration.

Start the CISCODEV Collector

The CISCODEV Collector is not started by default. After updating the CISCODEV Configuration, the collector should be started by using the following steps:

Open the PROGNOSIS Configuration.

Locate the following SET RUN statement:

SET RUN (irCISCODEVCOL.EXE, N)

Change the 'N' parameter to 'Y', i.e. No to Yes.

When finished select the Start button to run the configuration.

PASSWORDS Configuration

Where the Cisco device is using an SNMP password other than the default 'public' community string, an entry with the applicable password details will need to be added to the PASSWORDS Configuration.

Using either the Web Application -Administration tool or the Windows Client, open the PASSWORDS Configuration.

To add a new password entry:

Web Application

Click the Add New Entry button.

Windows Client

Select the Passwords tab and then click the icon at the top right.

These will create a blank line for the new entry.

Take care that the system generated COMMAND:PROGNOSIS entry or any other existing password entries are not overwritten.

Add the following details for the SNMP version being used. A separate entry is required for each Cisco device being monitored.

Entry Name

User name

Password

snmpV2c:<device_name>

Only required if a Community String other than 'public' is being used.

Not applicable. Select the 'Password Only' checkbox

SNMP v2c community string

snmpV3:<device_name>

SNMP v3 user name

or

MD5/SHA Authentication user name

SNMP v3 password, must be 8 characters or more in length

or

MD5/SHA Authentication password

snmpV3encrypt:<device-name>

Not applicable. Select the 'Password Only' checkbox

SNMP v3 Encryption password, must be 8 characters or more in length

Where <device-name> is the name of the Cisco device to be monitored. This must be the same name as added in the CISCODEV Configuration added in Step 2 at the top of this page.

When finished select the Start button to run the updated configuration.
