Performing HA Server Maintenance

Prognosis Servers that have been configured to be in a HA Pair need a little extra care and attention when performing any kind of maintenance activity. These activities can comprise of:

  • Server operating system upgrades
  • Prognosis Server upgrades
  • PostgreSQL database and table schema upgrades
  • Manual switchover between Active and Passive servers
  • Pause and Resume Synchronisation

When performing scheduled maintenance and downtime on a HA Pair it is important to follow these high-level steps to ensure that the servers can be updated with minimal loss to data. For detailed instructions, follow the links in the procedure below and refer to the following pages.

High-Level Maintenance Steps

The HA Pair servers will be referred to as Server A (Active) and Server B (Passive).

Logon to the Web Application - View Systems and connect to the Managing Server of the HA Pair.

Check Replication is successful by navigating to the HA Status Detailed dashboard Monitoring High Availability, and verify that the HA Pair is SYNCED.

Pause Synchronisation of the HA Pair, see Pause and Resume Synchronization for details.

Perform any necessary maintenance on Server B.

Please note that during this time, any changes to the Configurations will not be synchronized until server Server B becomes connected again.

Switchover the HA Pair (Server A becomes Passive and Server B becomes Active), using the Manual Switchover of the HA Pair procedure.

Perform any necessary maintenance on Server A.

Please note that during this time, any changes to the Configurations will not be synchronized until Server A becomes connected again.

Switchback the HA Pair (Server A becomes Active and Server B becomes Passive), using the Manual Switchover of the HA Pair procedure.
