File Extractor

This feature is for the following platforms: LINUX NONSTOP UNIX WINDOWS

The File Extractor provides the means for data to be extracted from nominated files and specific command outputs into Records by way of user-defined extractor scripts.

File Extractor has three modes of operation;

LOG mode

Instructs the Extractor to read log files and obtain newly appended data.

FILE mode

Instructs the Extractor to read ordinary files and obtain, in most cases, the whole content of these files.

Instructs the Extractor to create a process, execute a command inside this process and obtain the output generated by the command.

The Extractor requires the following three components to be configured correctly in order to interrogate and extract data;

1)    EXTRACTOR Configuration
This defines the location of the script files and the data source to read (i.e. Log, File or Command output). It also defines the collection interval and optional limitation on the number of records to buffer in memory.

2)    Extractor script file
This contains the instructions that are used to determine the data to be collected and how this data is interpreted into Records.

3)    User Record Definitions
These are the records and fields that the Extractor will populate with the collected data. The UDEFSREC file is used to create these user-defined records and fields.
