Setup CUC Access Credentials

In order for Prognosis to access Cisco UC data, the Administrator Username/Password is normally required as it provides the necessary security permissions. However, if this is not desirable, an alternative user name for Prognosis can be created using the Cisco UC Administration web interface and Command Line interface (CLI). Both a Web Application user and a CLI user will need to be created. To do this use the following procedures.

Web Application User

From the Setup Cisco Unity Connection.

From the navigation panel on the left, select: Users > Users.

On the 'Search Users' page click the Add New button.

On the 'New User' page complete the following fields:

New User from Template

User Type:

Select 'User Without Mailbox'.

Based on Template:

Select 'administratortemplate'.

Enter the user name, e.g. 'prognosis'.

Other fields can be left blank.

When finished click the Save button.

The 'Edit User Basics' page will now open. No settings need to be made on this page.

From the menu bar select: Edit > Roles.

Ensure that both 'Audit Administrator' and 'System Administrator' are included in the 'Assigned Roles' field.

When finished click the Save button.

From the menu bar select: Edit > Change Password

On this page set the password for the Web Application user.

When finished click the Save button.

From the menu bar select: Edit > Password Settings.

In order to set the user credentials so that the account does not require the password to be reset upon initial logon make the following settings:

When finished click the Save button.

In Unity Connection 12.5 and later, the Platform Administrator can restrict the number of concurrent sessions that a user or administrator can have on the following web interfaces of Cisco Unity Connection:

  • Cisco Unity Connection Administration

  • Cisco Unity Connection Serviceability

  • Cisco Unified Serviceability

  • Cisco Personal Communications Assistant

  • Cisco Unity Connection Web Inbox

  • Cisco Unity Connection SRSV

The concurrent web session limit does not include the active sessions of RTMT, Jabber and ViewMail for Outlook.

The user or administrator can create concurrent web sessions up to the maximum limit. If a user or administrator attempts a new session on any of the interface beyond the configured maximum limit, the user or administrator is not allowed to login to the interface. To decrease the active web sessions count, user or administrator must logout the active sessions or wait until the sessions are automatically closed or timed out.

Configuring Concurrent Web Session Limit

To configure the maximum concurrent session limit for web interfaces, execute the following CLI command:

  • set webapp session maxlimit <session limit>

You must have command privilege level 4 access to run this command. In case of a cluster, you must execute the CLI command on both publisher and subscriber. After configuring the maximum session limit, the tomcat service needs to be restarted on both the nodes for the changes to take effect.

The default value of maximum concurrent web session is 10.

Command Line Interface (CLI) User

The Command Line Interface (CLI) credentials are used by Prognosis to send data requests to the Cisco Unity Connection Publisher. The 'cuc dbquery' CLI command (Command privilege level 1) is run in order to retrieve user/mailbox statistics. It is run at start up and then once a day at around 4:00am.

Open the Cisco UC Command Line Interface (CLI) and log on as Administrator.

Enter the following entry to create the new user name.

admin:set account name <name>

For example, to create a user name of 'prognosis'.

admin:set account name prognosis

After the user name has been entered press the Enter key.

The system will now prompt for a privilege level and password for the new account. The standard Administrator account has a privilege level of '4', however, the new Prognosis user will only require a privilege level of '1'.

admin:set account name prognosis

Privilege Levels are:
Ordinary - Level 0
Advanced - Level 1

Please enter the privilege level:1
Please enter the password:******
re-enter to confirm:******
Account successfully created

In order to set the user credentials so that the account does not require the password to be reset upon initial logon, enter the following:

admin:set password change-at-login disable <name>

When complete press the Enter key and a confirmation message will be shown.

For example:

admin:set password change-at-login disable prognosis
Successfully disabled the change-at-login setting for prognosis

The new user name and password credentials can now be added in the Monitoring Server Configuration for Cisco Unity Connection.
