Installation Checklist for UNIX/Linux

Checklist for installing the Prognosis server on a UNIX or Linux. machine. Before proceeding with the installation please go through the following checklist and ensure that all items have been addressed.

Release Notes

Before proceeding please take time to read the latest Release Notes. The Release Notes can contain important information relating to the installation process and software operation.

Installation Files

Ensure that you have the 11.7 installation files for Unix & Linux. See Installation for instructions on downloading this installer.

Has the Prognosis 11.7 license been received?

Save the Prognosis license file ('license'') as follows, according to the Installation Procedure for UNIX/Linux being used:

a)    If upgrading from an MS Windows machine that has FTP access to the UNIX/Linux server, save the licence file to a convenient location on the MS Windows machine.

b)    If upgrading directly on the UNIX/Linux server FTP/upload the license file in ASCII mode to a convenient location on the UNIX/Linux machine. For hard disk upgrades it is preferable to use the Temp Directory - see step Install_TempDirectory.

If the license file has not been received, please contact your IR Account Manager.

See: License File

Check the server requirements.

See: Hardware Requirements for Server Installation

On what UNIX/Linux system is Prognosis being installed?

Ensure that the correct installation files are available (i.e. HP-UX, Linux, Solaris or AIX).

Hostname/IP Address (if installing from a Windows machine)

Obtain the DNS hostname or IP address of the UNIX/Linux server. This will be required during the installation procedure.

Ensure that the correct level logon is available (username/password)

Root password will be required in order to make some files 'setuid root'.

Create a Temp directory (If installing from MS Windows or hard disk)

If installing from MS Windows or hard disk, it will be necessary to create a temp directory on the UNIX/Linux server to store the installation files (install.sh & compressed tar file). Alternatively, the standard UNIX /tmp directory can be used.

Check that the correct library packages have been installed.

On 64bit Linux machines, 32 bit C++ library packages must be installed prior to the installation (libstdc++.i686 and compat-libstdc++-33.i686).

See: Important Information for Installations on UNIX/Linux.

Installation Directory

The installer will automatically create an installation directory using the directory name entered during the install. Do not create this directory yourself, the install script will do this for you and it will not install on an existing directory.

See: Important Information for Installations on UNIX/Linux.

Obtain the Oracle Home directory and Oracle TNS Admin directory (only if Oracle monitoring required).

Obtain the MQSeries home directory (only If MQ Series monitoring required).

Obtain 'Home' directories for DB2 Instances (only if DB2 monitoring required).

Once the checklist has been completed, proceed with the installation. For details see, Installation Procedure for UNIX/Linux.
