Modifying a Running Threshold

Modifications can be made to all sections of a running Threshold through the Windows Client. In addition, some modifications can be made through the Web Application.

Windows Client

Modifications can be made to all sections of a running Threshold and its associated conditions through the Windows Client. This can be done by accessing the running Threshold’s Properties dialog box from the Node Navigator. When the Properties dialog box is displayed the usual OK button is changed to Start and an extra button Save As... is included. To make any changes use the following procedure.

In the Nodes Navigator click on the required node name to expand the folder tree.

Expand the Thresholds section

Right-click on the Threshold document that is to be modified and then select Properties from the context menu. This will open the Threshold properties dialog box.

Amend or add to the properties as required. See Creating a Threshold for details.

If this change is to be saved as a different version of the Threshold document, add a new name on the General tab.

The Start button, when selected, will override the running document with the new Threshold properties. The document can also be saved by selecting the Save As button, or pressing the  (Close) button in the top right corner of the Properties dialog box.

Should the name of the document be changed in any way, then upon selecting the Start button another version of the document will be run.

Web Application

Limited modifications can be made to individual Threshold Conditions through the Web Application. Full editing capabilities can be carried out through the Windows Client.

Within the Web Application, each Threshold Condition can have the following items modified:

  • Where Clause

  • Default on and off message text

  • Specific destination message text

  • Severity level

  • Timing

Open and login to the Web Application - Administration tool.

Select the required server by highlighting the server name in the Managed Server panel (2nd from left).

From the Home page go to the Thresholds section.

Click on the required Threshold name.

This will open the Threshold Conditions page showing basic details of each Condition and its current status, i.e. Running or Stopped.

Modify a Condition

To edit a Condition, select the adjacent Edit button.

This will open the Edit page where the Trigger, Severity and Timing details can be modified.

Make the necessary modification and, when finished, click the Save and Apply Changes button.

Modify Default Destinations

To edit a Default Destination, select the Default Destinations tab at the top of the page.

At present, only the SNMP Trap Destination is available.

Make the necessary modification and, when finished, click the Save and Apply Changes button.

Any changes made to a running Threshold will revert back to the original settings if the Threshold is stopped and restarted. In order to make any changes permanent these should be done through the Windows Client using the Threshold document in the Document Navigator. For details see the Modifying an Existing Threshold.
